KIDS DENTAL TREATMENT

A Good Dentition Starts with Good Foundation

WHY KIDS DENTAL TREATMENT IS IMPORTANT

Importance of Primary Teeth

Primary teeth start to erupt in children from the age of six months. The primary dentition is complete by approximately two and a half years of age. The enamel of primary teeth is less densely mineralized than the enamel of permanent teeth, making them particularly susceptible to caries. Primary teeth are essential tools, both for chewing and learning to talk. They help to break up food into small pieces, thereby ensuring efficient digestion. A full set of teeth is an essential prerequisite in learning correct pronunciation. Primary teeth also play a vital role in the proper alignment and spacing of permanent teeth; it is therefore imperative that they are well cared for and preserved until normal ex-foliation takes place. Establishing a proper oral care routine early on in life sets the foundation for the development of healthy and strong permanent teeth. In addition to good oral hygiene, diet also plays a key role in keeping teeth healthy. In this respect it is not only the quantity of sugar that is important, but also the frequency of consumption. As much as possible, children should be limited in the amount of sweets between meals, especially in the evening or at night.

Fluoride Application
Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It also reverses early decay. In children under 6 years of age, fluoride becomes incorporated into the development of permanent teeth, making it difficult for acids to demineralize the teeth. Fluoride also helps speed remineralization as well as disrupts acid production in already erupted teeth of both children and adults.

Pit & Fissure Sealants Application
Pit & Fissure caries accounts for about 90% of the Decay in children and adolescents. The use of Sealants plays an important role in preventing the development of occlusal caries by isolating the covered tooth surfaces from microorganisms and food particles. Sealants are a safe and painless way of protecting your teeth from Tooth Decay. A sealant is a protective coating, which is applied to the biting surfaces of the back teeth. The sealant forms a hard shield that keeps food and bacteria from getting into the tiny grooves in the teeth and causing decay. As it is Flouride releasing, it also has anti-caries property.
Teeth Cleaning Periodically
A dental cleaning procedure is prescribed every six months or twice a year. For as short as 15 minutes to 30 minutes, a surface or deep cleaning procedure may be performed and this is concluded by a brushing and polishing. With a prophy paste and small brush, the surface is cleaned just as one would during a normal brushing technique, and the surface is given an even more impressive shine, the teeth are polished with a rubber cup using dental pumice.

Early (Interceptive) Orthodontic Care
The importance of pediatric orthodontics lies in the fact that early intervention in cases of teeth or jaw problems can spare your child from serious, long-term issues and make sure that any treatment required at a later age is less intensive. In some instances, pediatric orthodontics can accomplish results far better than those that could be achieved when your youngster’s face and jaw have developed fully.

Corrective Dental Treatment for Kids

Pediatric Fillings

Fillings are used to seal a small hole (cavity) in your tooth that is caused by decay. This simple, painless procedure prevents decay bacteria from spreading further into your tooth, and possibly infecting the root canal. We do both GIC fillings & Composite fillings for such situation which are Tooth Colored. GIC Filling has added advantage that it is Flouride Releasing, which has anti-caries Property.

Pulpotomy/Pulpectomy

Pultotomy is a Procedure where we remove the Partial infected nerve, leaving behind the healthy nerve. In Pulpectomy the we remove complete infected nerve which may require one to three visits. Finally, the tooth is filled with a dental composite. If the tooth has extensive decay, your doctor may suggest placing a crown to strengthen and protect the tooth from breaking.

Stainless Steel Crowns

Stainless steel crowns are used to restore back teeth that are too badly decayed to hold white fillings. When tooth decay on back teeth has been left untreated, teeth may have extensive damage. In such cases, stainless steel crowns necessary. These prefabricated sliver-colored crowns are fit; then cemented onto the primary (baby) teeth to prevent further damage until these teeth are naturally lost.

Orthodontic Treatment

It's easier to treat many orthodontic problems during childhood because the body is still developing rapidly. Whether you need standard braces, clear aligners, or appliances like palatal expanders, it's possible to make big changes in a short period of time.

Tooth Extraction

There are times when it is necessary to remove a tooth. Sometimes a baby tooth has misshapen or long roots that prevent it from falling out as it should, and the tooth must be removed to make way for the permanent tooth to erupt.

Space Maintainers

If your child loses a baby tooth prematurely, a “space maintainer” may be needed to hold the space open until the permanent tooth comes in to fill it. This appliance will help your child's bite develop properly — and hopefully avoid the need for braces later on.
