WHAT CAUSE OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA

When we sleep our muscle relaxes and so is our tongue. Patients with Obstructive sleep apnea, losses breath or gasp for air during sleep because tongue falls back and blocks airway passage.
This hampers breathing for 10 seconds or longer, which in turn reduces oxygen in blood and build up carbon dioxide. Brain senses this impaired breathing briefly rouses from sleep so that patient can reopen airway by taking deep breaths. This awakening is so brief that patient don’t remember it.
This pattern can repeat itself 5-30 times or more each hour, all night. these oxygen desaturations sends out stress signals which in turn forces jaw muscles to seize up or result in clenching.
